I really enjoyed filming this episode.
Claire Bennett had a really profound impact on me early in my career. In fact many people did, and hopefully you will see more of them in future episodes.
Claire is a senior engineer at a very large multinational engineering firm and the founding director of Machinam, an app-based resource helping students to connect what they are learning in class to their real life and future career pathways.
Many years ago Claire was my supervisor at Logan City Council. It was only for a few months, but she did a really good job supporting me and everyone else in the team.
Claire and I lost touch for a few years but we caught up again recently and Claire said something to me that I feel explains a lot about why she was able to support her team at Logan so well. What Claire said was (and I’m paraphrasing here) ‘I feel that my biggest skill is helping people to be the best that they can be.’
It made total sense for me. Of course I felt really well supported with Claire as my supervisor if her goal was to help each member of the team be the best that they could be.
Now I know that sounds cliché, but there’s more to it than that. Unfortunately, I can’t do a great job explaining it. But never fear, Claire can.
So without further ado, please enjoy this episode with Claire Bennett as we attempt to dig into the fine detail of exactly how we support people in any sort of team to be their best.
